Johann Kaspar Mertz (1806 – 1856) was an Austro-Hungarian guitarist and composer from the city of Pressburg (now Bratislava).
This short piece has a dark, dramatic mood. Take care to balance the right hand to bring out the melody clearly when playing chords. Rests are also very important and should be carefully observed.
