John Dowland (1563 – 1626) was an English lutenist, composer and singer. His compositions were very popular in his lifetime and continue to inspire musicians. One of his most recent fans is the English pop star Sting who recorded many of Dowland's most famous songs on his 2006 album Songs from the Labyrinth.
Orlando Sleepeth uses an unusual compositional device called "metric modulation". This can be difficult to get the hang of at first. The best way to get used to it is to listen to the video several times.
